Modulares Interface B.A. – Physische Controller fürs iPad

Florian Born und sein Projekt Modulares Interface B.A.

Multi-touch devices like the iPad have become more and more popular over the last couple of years. Nowadays they are not only used for browsing and sending e-mails, but also as a medium for new fields of applications. One particular thing of multi-touch devices is in need of improvement: It is the lack of haptic feedback, which makes it difficult to set parameters precisely. Regarding to this problem the project has been developed to provide a variety of physical controllers. These controllers expand the usage of a touch device with a haptic feedback while adjusting parameters. By using magnets, the different controllers can easily be arranged onto the iPad. A modular interface appears, which uses a given device just like the iPad. The system contains three different parts:
– The physical controllers (button, slider and knob), made out of conductive aluminium to pass on the electrical discharge of the human skin.
– A frame, made out of aluminium and plastic, in which the iPad is inserted. The edge of the frame has embedded magnets, making it possible to position the controller precisely and easily.
– The software, running as an app on the iPad. It organizes the control elements and sends the parameters to the corresponding software, which is controlled by the modular interface.

Pantone Bier

Concept and design based on the color of the beer. Each type of beer is associated with its corresponding Pantone color. The typeface chosen is HipstelveticaFontFamily in its bold version by José Gomes.

THAW from Vimeo: Tangible Media Group

THAW is a novel interaction system that allows a collocated large display and small handheld devices to seamlessly work together. The smartphone acts both as a physical interface and as an additional graphics layer for near-surface interaction on a computer screen. Our system enables accurate position tracking of a smartphone placed on or over any screen by displaying a 2D color pattern that is captured using the smartphone’s back-facing camera. The proposed technique can be implemented on existing devices without the need for additional hardware.

Photoshop Cs5 Filters Animation“ is a small tribute to Photoshop filters. We used the Ps logo and systematically applied the filters in the same way, seeking the essence of the software, exploring the aesthetic values of its resources but letting the spectator judge them. The project is comprised of two parts: A tumblr page, where all the effects live together at the same time as animated gif, representing all the steps from the original Ps logo to the final output. And a video showing every filter one after each other, with a custom sound design that uses the same sound for each filter but with a different distortion effect for every case, exporting the graphical concept to the sound.
In both parts, the order of appearance is the same that offers photoshop.

Over the past five or so years, global protests have been happening under an increasingly unified aesthetic, the most recognizable element of which is the Guy Fawkes mask. Popularized by V for Vendetta and meme-ified by Anonymous, the iconic image gives solidarity to otherwise disparate groups scattered across continents. But why should that solidarity be limited to one image without any local influence? With that in mind, ANIMAL designed a set of alternative Guy Fawkes masks in male and female models, with Palestinian keffiyehs, trees to represent Gezi Park, ancient Egyptian-style ornamentation, and clown noses that reference a long-held symbol of protest in Brazil, as well as traditional Fawkes masks in a variety of skin tones…

Alternative für den Gipsverband aus dem 3D-Drucker

cortex-1cortex-2

(via Adafruit Industries Blog)

After many centuries of splints and cumbersome plaster casts that have been the itchy and smelly bane of millions of children, adults and the aged alike, the world over, we at last bring fracture support into the 21st century. The Cortex exoskeletal cast provides a highly technical and trauma zone localized support system that is fully ventilated, super light, shower friendly, hygienic, recyclable and stylish. The cortex cast utilizes the x-ray and 3d scan of a patient with a fracture and generates a 3d model in relation to the point of fracture.

Sitzmuster des Todes

todesmuster-1

This is a collection of seat patterns on public transport. At some point I couldn’t help but notice the extraordinary diversity:Each town has its own design. Sometimes there are several types. No butt ever seems to pay attention. So I started collecting snapshots with my phone.

The Atelier Food still life is built on a grid. The still life represents the work of Atelier Food and the connection between food and society. It links the playfulness and creativity within the project with the ambitious goals and long-term challenges. In the spirit of the whole Atelier Food project it is also a creative co-operation between a chef, one Art Director and one Photographer.
