Instagif – DIY Sofortbildkamera, die GIFs ausdruckt

Die Instagif von Abhishek Singh ist eine moderne Reminiszenz an die legendären Sofortbildkameras von Polaroid. Dabei werden die Fotos als dreisekündiges GIF auf ein (Raspberry Pi betriebenes) Cartridge mit Display kopiert, das anschließend von der Kamera ausgeworfen wird. Wie beim Vorbild verblassen die Aufnahmen – nur halt nicht in Jahren sondern Sekunden. Nice!

I built a camera that snaps a GIF and ejects a little cartridge so you can hold a moving photo in your hand! I’m calling it the “Instagif NextStep”. Don’t ask me why I built it, it sounded like a fun challenge and I always wanted to hold a moving photo. If it wasn’t obvious, I was inspired by the Polaroid OneStep. What I love about these kinds of projects is that they involve a bunch of different skill sets and disciplines – hardware, software, 3D modeling, 3D printing, circuit design, mechanical/electrical engineering, design, fabrication etc that need to be integrated for it to work seamlessly. Ironically this is also what I hate about these kinds of projects :P I have detailed all the steps here and have released all the code, eagle files and design files so you can create your own.

Neurotransmitter 3000 – Ein Fahrgeschäft, das mit biometrischen Daten gesteuert wird

Tolles Projekt – nicht nur wegen dem Namen: Der Neurotransmitter 3000 von Daniel de Bruin ist ein sieben Meter hohes Fahrgeschäft, das auf Herzfrequenz, Körpertemperatur, Schwerkraft und Muskelspannung reagiert. Dabei werden die biometrischen Daten von Sensoren gemessen und anschließend in Bewegung übersetzt. Der Körper reagiert auf die Bewegungen des Neurotransmitter 3000, der wiederum auf den Körper reagiert.

Artist/designer Daniel de Bruin is driven by the desire to become part of the things he creates. Neurotransmitter 3000 is such a thing: a seven-meter high attraction in which he lets himself swing around. He built the first phase of the machine as part of his graduation from HKU University of the Arts Utrecht in 2015. From then on, he developed a plan to control the machine by biometric data he obtains by sensors on his body. Heart rate, body temperature, orientation / gravity and muscle tension are measured and translated to variations in motion. Thus, not only responds De Bruins body on the movements of the Neurotransmitter, the Neurotransmitter also responds to his body.

Smartes Kondom will Performance beim Sex tracken


Klingt wie aus einer Episode von Black Mirror: Bei British Condoms kann man für rund 70 Euro das i.Con Smart Condom vorbestellen. Das Teil zeichnet u.a. auf, wieviel Kalorien beim Sex verbrannt werden, durchschnittliche Geschwindigkeit und Gesamtzahl der Stöße, Hauttemperatur und verschiedene Positionen (Beta). Die Daten werden, na klar, an eine App gesendet und können mit anderen geteilt werden. Der Produktname ist etwas irreführend, bei dem Wearable handelt es sich um einen Penis-Ring, der über ein Kondom gezogen wird. Apropos Internet of Shit:

Once you have downloaded your data, the i.Con will automatically clear its memory making way for your next session. It’s extremely simple to use.

What does i.Con do with its data? Can I use it anonymously?

Absolutely! All data will be kept anonymous but users will have the option to share their recent data with friends, or, indeed the world. You will be able to anonymously access stats that you can compare with i.Con users worldwide.

Lego-Roboter-Band covert „The Robots“ von Kraftwerk

Ihr letzter Auftritt hier im Blog ist schon eine Weile her, jetzt melden sich die Lego-Bionicle der Toa Mata Band mit einem Kraftwerk-Klassiker zurück.

This is my inspiration to this Kraftwerk ’s tribute, regarding their vision of the future and to their brilliant approaching to the music with a touch of irony that even now is still influencing a thousand of music producers around the world.
My video contribution from Toa Mata Band (a tiny orchestra of Lego® robots driven by Arduino®) represents a version of the iconic tune „The robots“ using nowadays open-source technologies, microcontrollers, 3D printer, robot arm, music DAW, smarthphones, pocket synthesizers* and more… trying to give a new way to read the message we got from them 40 years ago.

„Air-Ink“ Tinte und Marker aus Feinstaub von Autoabgasen


Graviky Labs haben in Kooperation mit der Agentur Marcel Sydney und Tiger eine Kleinserie unterschiedlicher Marker aufgelegt, für deren Tinte der Feinstaub aus Autoabgasen zur Pigmentierung gefiltert wurde. Leider (noch?) nicht im Handel erhältlich, aber die Vorstellung, mit dem Dreck aus der Stadtluft die Wände der Stadt zu taggen, finde ich recht reizvoll… [Update: Inzwischen erfolgreich auf Kickstarter crowdgefundet]

Over the last 150 years, mankind has depended on burning fossil fuels directly or indirectly for their energy needs. Soot is the major byproduct of the burning of fossil fuels. Research has shown that many premature deaths are directly related to soot in the environment. Particle exposure leads to around 20,000 premature deaths in America each year. Many of these deaths were caused by soot-related diseases. Data also shows that soot annually causes almost 300,000 asthma attacks and 2 million lost workdays due to respiratory problems.

Depending on the type a 30ML Air-Ink Pen contains 30-50 minutes of air pollution generated by cars- that otherwise have been floating in the environment otherwise and giving us ‚cancer‘. Our vision is to arrest the vehicular, environmental soot in a way that it doesn’t reach our lungs.
